Screen protectors are an annoying but essential accessory for almost every smartphone. Is this something you need for the OnePlus 10 Pro?
Screen protectors are great for protecting a phone from everyday wear and tear, but do you need one for the OnePlus 10 Pro? Smartphones are more powerful and capable in 2022 than they have ever been. You want to play a quick game of fortnite? Watching a 4K movie? Have a video call with someone halfway around the world? These are all things you can do with virtually any phone today, the OnePlus 10 Pro included.
While it’s undoubtedly convenient to have so much power in your hand, today’s phones are pretty accident prone. With slippery glass backs, curved screens, and ever-increasing prices, it’s risky to go out and use your phone without any protection. That’s why you see most people covering their expensive iPhones and Samsung Galaxy handsets with bulky cases and screen protectors. They don’t look very attractive, but they’re essential if you want your phone to look pristine after months or years of daily use.
So what about the OnePlus 10 Pro? This is one area where OnePlus stands out from its competition. Unlike most other smartphones sold in the United States, the OnePlus 10 Pro comes with a pre-installed screen protector. It’s included on every OnePlus 10 Pro and is installed on the phone for you. The OnePlus 10 Pro benefits from a screen protector just like any other smartphone, but what makes it unique is that you don’t have to buy one.
Pros and Cons of the 10 Pro’s Screen Protector
While screen protectors aren’t expensive purchases, getting one for free with the OnePlus 10 Pro is definitely a nice perk. Plus, it fits perfectly on the phone and provides extra protection against light bumps/scratches. In a world where most companies include less and less in their smartphone boxes, we’ll grab a free screen protector any day of the week.
That said, some OnePlus 10 Pro users may want to remove the included screen protector and get a different one. The included protector is a fairly basic TPU (aka plastic) film. It’s thin and offers good coverage against light damage, but more severe drops/drops may be too much. If you’re a self-proclaimed fanatic and know you need as much protection as possible, it’s probably worth replacing the included screen protector with a tempered glass protector. On the other hand, OnePlus 10 Pro users who rarely drop their phone may want to remove the included screen protector and use the 10 Pro without it. Since the screen protector is plastic, it naturally makes the screen less smooth and premium than the glass underneath. And that glass is Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus, giving the 10 Pro one of the toughest smartphone displays you can get.
In short, the OnePlus 10 Pro does not need a screen protector. The included one offers sturdy coverage for most users, and if you don’t like the feel, the Gorilla Glass Victus covering the 10 Pro’s display is as durable as it gets. There’s no harm in buying a sturdier tempered glass protector, but unless you constantly drop the OnePlus 10 Pro wherever you go, you probably don’t need it.
