Every Pokémon that can’t be caught

In the Pokemon franchise, the phrase “catch ’em all” appears in anime, movies, games, and more, but there are several monsters players can’t catch in the wild. While there are limited-edition Pokemon that require players to access specific WiFi networks or play specific titles, these creatures are still catchable in one way or another. Additionally, the controversial Dexit feature would be here to stay, with all available monsters no longer appearing in a single title. While this exclusion of PokemonThe main series disappointed dedicated fans, many creatures were never available to capture in the main series and spin-off titles.

There are many main series and spinoffs Pokemon games for fans around the world, both on Nintendo Switch, mobile devices and previous generation Nintendo consoles. While the main series of games (Pokémon Red and Blue, Pokémon Sword and Shield, Pokémon Black and White, etc.) follow a strict formula, spin-off titles had more freedom with player interactions with Pokémon. The goal of capturing monsters, training them, and becoming a home region champion is standard practice in the franchise, but other titles like New Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Rangerand Pokemon Legends: Arceus focused on other goals. Photographing Pokémon, temporarily recruiting wild creatures, and exploring a wilderness introduced new ways to interact with the Pokemon world without catching all the monsters.

Games like the next Pokémon Scarlet and Violet feature new monsters and regions, but frequently allow players to capture all of the title’s creatures. For a monster to qualify as “capturable” in the context of this article, players must be able to encounter the monster in the wild within a certain in-game context. This means that Pokemon that require hacks or third-party programs to access them are elusive, such as Shinies or other unique forms of existing monsters. However, it is still possible for Nintendo and Game Freak to hold special events or develop titles that make these creatures available in the future.

Pokémon GO introduces an elusive monster with restrictions

Pokemon Lets Go How To Catch Melmetal

To the output, Pokemon GO only allowed the first generation of monsters to spawn in different areas, with trainers joining different teams (Instinct, Valor, or Mystic) and interacting with Pokéstops and Gyms to collect supplies. Niantic, the Pokemon GO developer, added new events and quests that unlocked legendary and mythical monsters over time. However, two Pokémon have remained elusive for console-exclusive players and remain elusive on the Nintendo Switch today: Meltan and Melmetal.

While players can quickly obtain a Meltan in Pokemon GO, a free application, the difficulty comes from its evolution. First, players must acquire 400 Meltan Candies, which Niantic rewards in small amounts after successfully catching a specimen. Players can achieve this by using different berries to increase candy rewards or time their Meltan Boxes daily. However, it is still a time-consuming process that many gamers never reach. After obtaining Meltan and Melmetal, players can only access them in Nintendo Switch titles by transferring them from Pokemon GO at Pokemon House. Additionally, it’s impossible to catch a Melmetal with Gigantamax, a coveted ability for Pokémon in sword and shield. It is currently unknown whether Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will feature Meltan or Melmetal as native monsters, or if a Nintendo Switch method of catching these creatures will appear in the future.

New Pokemon Snap Features Rare Illumina Specimens

Boss Meganium

New Pokemon Snap explored the Lental area, where they worked alongside researchers as wildlife photographers. The unique energy native to Lental imbues Pokémon with a large size and bioluminescent glow, creating Pokémon Illumina. Although it is possible for players to catch most of the Pokémon featured in New Pokemon Snapit is impossible to encounter Illumina monsters outside of the picture set.

Additionally, the lack of an in-game capture mechanic ensures that players cannot transfer Illumina Pokémon to Pokémon Home, making this spin-off game an isolated title. While these restrictions aren’t as game-changing as some others, the popularity of Shiny hunting in the Pokemon The franchise is a testament to how far fans have come to get uniquely colored monsters. The Pokémon Illumina not available outside New Pokemon Snap are:

  • Meganium
  • Milotic
  • Wishi-washi
  • Volcano (x2)
  • Steelix
  • Xernea

Pokémon Ranger Introduces Elusive Manaphy

Pokémon Manaphy cover

the Pokemon Ranger The game revolutionized the way to interact with wild Pokémon, introducing a new profession in the form of Pokémon Rangers. These characters have temporarily recruited wild Pokémon to help navigate and avoid natural disasters without using Poké Balls. As a result, players cannot permanently catch monsters in-game or transfer them to other titles. However, upon release, Pokemon Ranger debuted Manaphy, a Mythical Pokemon that couldn’t be caught before Pokémon Diamond and Pearl released a few months later. While Manaphy is available in other games, the Manaphy that appears in Pokemon Ranger is not available anywhere else in the franchise.

Many Mythical and Legendary Pokémon are Shinylocked

Shiny Locked Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Featured Pokémon X and Y Elusive Fleet of AZ

pokemon fleet

Pokemon X and Y the games featured AZ, an ancient king whose machines wreaked havoc among Pokémon and people alike. Broken by the loss of his Floette during the war, he created an ultimate weapon to use the life force of others and restore his companion’s life. Unfortunately, after resurrecting Floette, he became distraught over the destruction and chaos his friend had caused and left. While Floette can be captured in Kalos, Floette from AZ is only used for story purposes. Floette’s design is unique from other members of her species, and that’s the only significant element Pokemon character that players cannot catch in one form or another.

While there aren’t many Pokémon that have remained elusive over the years, the National Dex’s departure gives Pokemonit is developers have more opportunities to limit Pokémon appearances throughout the franchise. Players with favorite monsters should keep a close eye on which creatures are available in which titles. Pokémon Home offers many creatures to transfer between games, but different related and spin-off games may restrict Pokémon movements in the future.
