REVIEW – I don’t pamper my iPhone but at the same time, I don’t want to scratch the screen so I use a screen protector. Screen protectors used to be a boring accessory, but now they don’t have to be. Today I want to show you the Glassie Smiley tempered glass screen protector which is surprisingly little boring. Let’s look at this.
What is that?
The Glassie Smiley is a tempered glass iPhone screen protector that has been designed to protect your iPhone screen. But the Glassie protector has a fun feature that 99.9% of other screen protectors don’t. The Glassie uses in-glass ghost ink technology that displays an image or text when the screen is off. Right now you can choose from the wavy smiley face like the one they sent me or positive text messages like “Today is a good day”, “Stop overthinking”, and more.
What’s in the box?
- Glassie Smiley Tempered Glass Screen Protector
- Install the frame
- alcohol wipe
- Dust removal sticker
- polishing cloth
Installing the Glassie Smiley Screen Protector
Installing the Glassie Smiley tempered glass screen protector is no different than installing other glass screen protectors. You’ll need to make sure your phone’s screen is clean using the included alcohol wipe and polishing cloth. If there are tiny bits of dust, you can use the included dust removal sticker.
The next step is to snap the installation frame onto the iPhone screen.
The plastic frame is designed to make it easier and simpler to align the protector to the phone.
The next step to installing the Glassie Smiley tempered glass screen protector is to peel the protector off the plastic backing. The protector protects the entire iPhone screen and only has a small cutout for the speaker.
All you have to do is place the protector inside the install frame sticky side down (duh!) and it will pretty much sell on the screen. If there are air bubbles, you can use your fingers to slide the bubbles aside. I had a bubble the size of a dime that wouldn’t slide to the side, but when I checked the phone the next day the bubble was gone.
Design and features
Glassie magic happens when the phone screen is off. You can then see the image or message at the bottom of the screen.
But don’t worry because the image practically disappears when you use the phone.
If you’re a dark mode person like me, you can see the image/words when the bottom edge of the screen is very dark and the phone is perfectly tilted, but honestly, I rarely notice that unless I don’t really look for it. Check out the image above where you can make out the image above the Messages icon a bit.
While using the Glassie Smiley tempered glass screen protector on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, I had no problem using Face ID to unlock the phone. Also, since the front camera is covered by the screen protector, I’m happy to say that there were no issues when using this camera for selfies and other photos. or selfie photos.
The protector also has smooth rounded black edges that make it look like it’s not even there.
What I like
- Unique and fun
- Protects your iPhone screen from daily wear and tear
- Easy to install
What I would change
- Add more options and the ability to order custom messages/art
Does the Glassie Smiley tempered glass screen protector protect your phone screen better than other tempered glass screen protectors without smiley faces and ghost ink messages? No. But having a Glassie Smiley tempered glass screen protector on your phone is definitely unique and more fun than other screen protectors.
