Fortnite’s split screen mode is back in Chapter 3! Epic Games disabled it at the start of the new chapter, presumably to avoid performance issues. However, patch v19.01 has reactivated it and players can once again enjoy this cooperative mode!
Thanks to the split screen, two Fortnite players can team up using just one console and one TV. The setup is very simple and players who use split screen mode can team up with other players as well. In this article, you can find a simple guide on how to set it up and play with your favorite teammate on the same console!
Fortnite split screen setup guide
At this time, the Fortnite split screen is only available on PlayStation and Xbox. It is not available on PC, cellphones, or Nintendo Switch, although it may be added to these platforms in the future. Surprisingly, many players did not even know that this cooperative mode existed before the release of patch v19.01!
The mode was first released in Chapter 2 – Season 1 and it has received several updates and improvements since then. Keep in mind that you can only play Fortnite Battle Royale in this mode. Other game modes, such as Save the World or Creative, are not currently supported.
Here’s how you can easily set it up:
- Start Fortnite and go to the main menu
- Turn on the second controller and log into another Fortnite account with it
- At the bottom of the screen you will see the Triangle / Y button which will allow Player 2 to connect
- Ask player 1 to invite player 2 to the lobby
As soon as you enter a match, the screen will be split into two halves. While this puts players at a disadvantage, playing like this is definitely a lot of fun with the right teammate!
More information on the mode
If a player disconnects from a Fortnite split screen match, the split screen session will end. In addition, this screen will only be active in a match and will not affect the lobby.
It is important that both players have the same language settings, otherwise the split screen may not work. Since two players are using the same console, the mode requires a stable internet connection and it will not work properly in poor network conditions.
