Plano-based Cinemark to air the Game Awards live on December 9 »Dallas innovates

Moviegoers have the Oscars. TV fans have the Emmys. So where are the players going for their big awards night of the year? On December 9, they can visit select theaters in the United States owned by Plano-based Cinemark to see the 8th Annual Game Awards live on the big screen.

Last week, Geoff Keighley, creator, executive producer and host of The Game Awards, announced this year’s nominees in 30 categories. Broadcasting live on YouTube from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, where the event will be held, Keighley said several nominations were recorded by first-person shooter “Deathloop”; the “It Takes Two” action-adventure relationship platform; “Psychonauts 2”; and “Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.”

All of these also won nominations for the grand prize – the game of the year – with “Resident Evil Village” and “Metroid Dread”.

The New York Times calls Game rewards “The Oscars for the video game world,” and last year’s numbers back it up – its 2020 event delivered over 83 million live streams, according to Cinemark.

The Game Awards are one of the biggest live-streamed events of the year on the internet, where game makers, esports champions, digital influencers and Hollywood stars come together to see who wins big. . This year’s awards show will feature “world premieres of exclusive games, announcements of new games and musical performances,” Cinemark said.

Cinemark and 20th Century Studios create a “Superticket” on December 9

To kick-start the evening, Cinemark is teaming up with 20e Century Studios will be offering an exclusive “Superticket” for the event, pairing a preview screening of Matthew Vaughn’s “The King’s Man” with the game’s awards show. Action flick stars Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton and Djimon Housou in an origin story for the “Kingsmen” film series.

“The King’s Man” is slated for release on December 22, after several pandemic-related delays from its original November 2019 release date.

“As the first exhibitor to present The Game Awards, we are delighted to once again exclusively offer an epic evening by pairing the broadcast of this year’s awards ceremony with a preview screening of ‘The King’s Man, “” Justin McDaniel, Cinemark’s SVP of Global Content, said in a statement.
