There have been several attempts to popularize the scrolling smartphone. However, given the complexity of this screen, there has been little to no breakthrough in terms of commercialization. According to popular Weibo tech blogger, @DCS, Oppo is planning to release the scrolling screen smartphone. The company plans to launch the era of scrolling screen smartphones.
According to @DCS, Oppo is the fastest moving brand in the scrolling screen smartphone project. Among Chinese manufacturers, Oppo is ahead and it could be the first to market smartphones with scrolling screens.
Oppo has already introduced the Oppo scrolling smartphone at the Oppo Future Technology 2020 conference. This scrolling smartphone is called Oppo X 2021. Compared to the foldable smartphones in the market, the Oppo X 2021 scrolling smartphone can be called subversive progress. This mobile phone relies on the characteristics of the flexible screen to realize the continuous push-pull change of the screen. In this way, the screen becomes larger or smaller in the true sense of the word.
Moreover, the Oppo X 2021 scrolling screen smartphone basically solves the flaw inherent in foldable smartphones – the problem of creases. According to reports, Oppo X 2021 delicately wraps around the flexible OLED display. It realizes the flexible folding of the screen thanks to a volute of pulley of diameter 6.8mm while bringing a visual effect without fold. However, it is a bit unfortunate that the Oppo X 2021 was not mass-produced for commercial use. Luckily, Oppo’s scrolling screen business model is already on the way, which is worth the wait.
Scrolling screen smartphone development
In addition to Oppo, LG and Samsung have developed scrolling screen smartphones. At CES 2021 in January last year, LG officially announced the scrolling screen mobile phone, LG Rollable. The machine uses a flexible OLED screen from BOE. This display stand can be unfolded without any folding structure. Of course, the mechanism also expands the screen area. According to LG’s official introduction, LG Rollable uses what LG Electronics calls a “unique resizable screen.” By swiping in and out to change the surface, the screen can go from the size of a mobile phone to the size of a small tablet. display the size can increase from 6.8 inches to 7.4 inches.
Samsung has also made good progress with a scrolling screen smartphone. However, all Samsung has at the moment are just patents. This device uses the screen roll-up at one end of the screen using the principle of scrolling and pulls it out when needed to enlarge the screen size.
